After building a family life, trying careers including nursing, bartending and cosmetology, and enduring the death of her husband, Sweets returned with a clearer objective than the one that guided her first run. “My entire game plan was to basically not make the mistakes I made before,” she says. “I definitely wanted to make a name for myself. I actually wanted to have this as a career and to be a brand instead of collect a paycheck.” Her late husband had supported her early work, and she describes the comeback as a way of reclaiming the adventurous, independent life she had never entirely stopped considering.
The interview also follows Sweets from her Orange County punk years and early modeling work to professional sets, subscription content and a renewed focus on industry standards.
