The performer and director looks back at her Best DVD recognition, a growing creator-led career, and projects still moving toward release.
CHICAGO — FYC 27: For Your Consideration turns to Blake Lovely for a look at her last year of work, a year that began with her film winning Best DVD at the TEA Awards. Lovely appeared in every scene of the project and says the win, amid numerous nominations, changed how people viewed her work. “I feel like people took me seriously after that,” she tells EMMReport. The recognition also prompted a closer look at the quality of the collaborations she releases under her name. She traces the achievement back to the first major scene she landed after repeated rejection, the music career that taught her to connect with an audience, and the friends and collaborators who helped make the award-winning feature possible. “It took a village,” she says of the film.
In the FYC 27 profile, Lovely discusses a friend-centered summer, the demands of being visible to subscribers around the clock, and the creator-funded projects she hopes will expand opportunities for trans performers. She says she helped produce and appeared in Bakari’s Grooby feature Transsexual Horror Stories, which she said was scheduled for October 15. “I am trying to push our genre forward,” she says. She also reflects on the pressure facing studio work and the benefits and costs of subscription platforms, while describing her next films, collaborations, and studio opportunities she wants to pursue.
