Chicago – Lisa Femia, Staff Attorney on the Electronic Frontier Foundation’s civil liberties team, is this week’s guest on Adult Site Broker Talk.
Lisa’s work focuses on surveillance, privacy, free speech, and the impact of technology on civil rights and civil liberties. She has done substantial work challenging age verification laws across the U.S.
Lisa brings a strong background in civil rights and democracy reform to EFF, having previously worked at Hogan Lovells US LLP, where she maintained an active pro bono practice focused on criminal justice and civil rights. Before her time at Hogan, she specialized in privacy and government surveillance at the Brennan Center for Justice as a clinic student and a post-graduate intern. She also served as an NYU International Law and Human Rights Fellow, advocating for press freedom in Kampala, Uganda. Earlier in her career, she managed government relations for a national nonprofit in Washington, D.C. Lisa holds a J.D. from NYU School of Law and a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is a nonprofit dedicated to safeguarding digital rights. Since its inception in 1990, EFF has championed user privacy, free expression, and innovation through legal advocacy, policy research, grassroots activism, and technology development. Its mission is to ensure technology supports freedom and justice worldwide.
EFF continues to lead the fight against online privacy intrusions and free speech restrictions, particularly opposing age verification laws that impact all internet users. In 2024, EFF challenged these laws in California, New York, Texas, and Mississippi and plans to expand its efforts in 2025, including legal action in Florida. The organization also remains a vocal opponent of federal legislation like the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA).
