Chicago – Rachel Steele reflects on nearly two decades of performance, production and independent brand-building in “Rachel Steele: ‘I Offer a Safe Space Where People Can Explore Their Inclinations’”, a new Q & A interview with French magazine La Voix du X.
The director, performer and founder of Red MILF Productions traces her unconventional path from single motherhood and salon ownership in New England to entering the adult industry at 45. “When I ended my hairdressing career, I accidentally stumbled into the adult industry by sending a sexy photo of myself by a pool,” Steele explains to writer Pierre Des Esseintes, describing the unexpected beginning of a career she would ultimately shape around her own creative instincts.
She also addresses the purpose behind her taboo storytelling and the importance of giving audiences room to explore fantasy without shame. “I create taboo content, which caters to a fantasy, a desire that millions of people still feel ashamed of,” she says. “It’s just a fantasy, nothing more. I offer a safe space where people can explore their desires, and helping them do so brings me immense joy.”
That philosophy extends to how Steele constructs each Red MILF Productions release. “I consider myself more of a filmmaker than a pornographer,” she says. “I prioritize storytelling and character development, with a well-defined beginning, middle and end, rather than focusing solely on the sexual aspect.” She also speaks candidly about censorship surrounding taboo content, explaining that she uses “stepmother” terminology because payment processors and financial institutions restrict the language creators can use.
Steele adds that consistency, self-direction and ownership are the principles behind her longevity. “You have to stay true to yourself and your brand image, and be your own creative guide rather than just looking at what others are doing,” she says. As for her future, Steele has no intention of slowing down: “I’ll always be here… I’m not leaving this place until I’m in a coffin!”
