Green Bay @ Philadelphia (Playing in Brazil) – What NFL idiot scheduled this game to be played in the hotspot of pro football, Brazil? Along with the heat and the opponent, apparently the teams also must worry about the high crime rate, i.e. don’t leave the team hotel. If the teams make it to the stadium, the edge goes to the Packers. Green Bay 27 Philadelphia 24
Sunday
Pittsburgh @ Atlanta – The Steelers have two quarterbacks: Russell Wilson and Justin Fields and both played like hot garbage in the preseason. Wilson will start the season but he’s on a short leash. The Falcons have a new coaching staff along with QB Kirk Cousins. They also added help on defense and at wide receiver. Falcons 24 Steelers 13
Arizona @ Buffalo – The Bills lost a lot of talent in the offseason and the Cardinals added talent. How good is the talent they added will prove out over time. The Bills are still a playoff contender, but they’re stepped down a notch. Bills 27 Cardinals 24
Tennessee @ Chicago – The Bears start the season with a solid defense and rookie QB Caleb Williams leading the offense that has a shaky offensive line. But Williams does have an impressive group of receivers if he can stay vertical. The Titans have improved at offensive line, receiver and cornerback and they hope to see continued improvement from QB Will Levis. Chicago 34 Tennessee 24
New England @ Cincinnati – First year coach Jerod Mayo has a lot of holes to fill in New England. There are plenty of questions for the Bengals as well, but as long as Joe Burrow stays healthy, they should be a contender. Bengals 30 Patriots 17
Houston @ Indianapolis – Something tells me the Texans could be a contender for the AFC South if C.J. Stroud continues his upward trajectory. The Colts should be improved but they still have a few hurdles to get over. Texans 24 Colts 17
Jacksonville @ Miami – The Dolphins are loaded on offense this year so if they can keep their defense together, they could have a deep run in the playoffs. The Jaguars need more consistent play from Trevor Lawrence which also hinges on a healthy and improved offensive line. Miami 34 Jaguars 27
Carolina @ New Orleans – The Saints need better play from their offensive line. If they get that, then Derek Carr should have a solid season in which they contend for the NFC South. It’s going to be a long season for the Panthers. Saints 27 Panthers 17
Minnesota @ NY Giants – It’s going to be a long year for the New York Football Giants. Sam Darnold gets the nod at QB after the season ending injury to rookie J.J. McCarthy. The Vikings are still a solid team, but Darnold will need a career season to get the Vikings in the playoffs. Vikings 23 Giants 18
Las Vegas @ LA Chargers – The Raiders won the Super Bowl for offseason trash talk and hype (the Cowboys have won that award the last 30 years). Now is when the rubber meets the road, and it starts in LA against the Chargers. Gardner Minshew gets the starting job for the Raiders but a lot of questions still persist on offense while their defense is average at best. Jim Harbaugh hopes to bring that Michigan magic to Southern California. If Justin Herbert can stay healthy the Bolts may be a surprise team this season. Chargers 27 Raiders 20
Denver @ Seattle – If Geno Smith can play consistently, and that depends on the Seahawk offensive line, they have a chance to make some noise in the NFC West this season. Denver starts Bo Nix at quarterback this season. The Broncos have a chance to be respectable with a solid defense. Seattle 24 Denver 20
Dallas @ Cleveland – The Browns hopes ride with Deshaun Watson who is coming off shoulder surgery along with other players who also joined him with trips to the O.R. in the offseason. The Cowboys (American’s team…explains a lot) are once again getting their ring fingers sized before winning one game. However, considering their talent, they should actually have a shot at a Super Bowl berth. Cowboys 31 Browns 20
Washington @ Tampa – With Baker Mayfield at quarterback along with the weapons around him, the Buccaneers should have no problem scoring points. Their problem: will the defense be able to stop anybody. Rookie Jayden Daniels starts at quarterback for Washington which gives their long-suffering fans hope, but the rebuild is far from over. Tampa 31 Washington 17
Sunday Night
LA Rams @ Detroit – Matthew Stafford returns to Detroit and the Lions would love to welcome him with a swift kick in the ass. They’ll get their chance as the Rams start the season with questions along the offensive line. The Lions were a game away from the Super Bowl last year and they’ve improved. The NFC North will be no cakewalk, but this might be the year. Lions 34 Rams 27
Monday
NY Jets @ San Francisco – Jets fans hope their dream of a trip to the Super Bowl was just delayed a year while Aaron Rodgers recovered from his season ending injury. If he can stay healthy, all things are possible. The 49ers appear to be the team to beat in the NFC again this year, but concerns about team depth persist. 49ers 27 Jets 24
