Season 0 – 0
Thursday
Dallas @ Philadelphia – The Eagles are the kings of the NFL while the Cowboys appear to be playing the role of court jester once again by trading Micah Parsons to the Packers. Obviously, the Eagles are the team to beat in the NFC while the Cowboys will figure out a way to beat themselves. Eagles 31 Cowboys 17
Friday
Kansas City @ LA Chargers (Playing in Brazil) – The Chiefs ended last season once again as the top dogs in the AFC. This year might be a little more difficult to keep that top spot. But at this point it would be foolish to count them out. The Chargers didn’t improve much in the offseason and have lost Rashawn Slater for the season already. Expect much of the same from the Chargers: flashes of greatness until the season comes crashing down. Chiefs 34 Chargers 23
Sunday
Tampa @ Atlanta – Atlanta starts the season with a new DC, but all eyes are on Michael Penix Jr. If he does well, so will the Falcons. Tampa is favored once again to take the NFC South and pundits have suggested they have an outside shot at the Super Bowl. They first must take care of the Falcons who beat them twice last season. Tampa 27 Atlanta 17
Cincinnati @ Cleveland – The Bengals must start taking the season seriously from game one. Sucking the first half of the season and expecting to rally in the second half does not bode well for success. The Browns are a trainwreck on both sides of the ball. Bengals 31 Browns 20
Miami @ Indianapolis – The Colts start former Giants QB Daniel Jones. Should I continue? It’s going to be a long season for the Colts. That burning smell from Miami is head coach Mike McDaniel’s ass on the hot seat. If Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins struggle this season, McDaniel’s head may be the first to roll in the offseason. Dolphins 27 Colts 14
Carolina @ Jacksonville – Bryce Young and Tetairoa McMillan should keep the Panthers in games, but their defense needs to vastly improve over last season’s horrific performance. The Jaguars should be fine on offense, but the defense is shaky at best. If the defense improves, the Jags could be wildcard worthy. Jags 31 Panthers 24
Las Vegas @ New England – Pete Carroll becomes the fourth head coach since the Raiders moved to Vegas in 2020. News Flash: That doesn’t allow for any continuity. New England brings in Mike Vrabel as HC to reinvigorate the franchise if not to relive the past. Between the two coaches, Vrabel has the higher mountain to climb. Carroll has Geno Smith leading as offense that should be respectable. Maxx Crosby leads the Raiders defense that has struggled but should be better this year. Vrabel will have challenges on both sides of the ball this season. Don’t worry Patriots fans, he’ll have them contending for second place very soon. Raiders 24 Patriots 20
Arizona @ New Orleans – The Cardinals have Kyler Murray and Marvin Harrison Jr. on offense and a below-average defense at best. The Cardinals will show flashes of greatness against the weaker teams, but I suspect they’ll get comfortable at the bottom of the NFC West. Speaking of bottom dwellers, they open the season against the Saints. Spencer Rattler will start the season at QB, but it looks like another long season for the Saints. Arizona 34 Saints 21
Pittsburgh @ NY Jets – Remember when Aaron Rodgers played for the Packers? That was, what, fifty years ago? Except for Rodgers, the Steelers do have a few weapons on offense and a solid defense. The Jets start Justin Fields at QB, but it appears they will be a run-oriented offense. The Jets defense is average at best so I don’t think their fans will be embarrassed this year but being average is their best hope this year. Steelers 23 Jets 17
NY Giants @ Washington – The Commanders were an exciting team last year and appear to be able to continue to improve. Their only weakness is on the defensive side of the ball. Russell Wilson lands in New York after a less than remarkable ride in Pittsburgh. The Giants will be better this year than last year, but the playoffs are still a few years away. Washington 34 Giants 24
Tennessee @ Denver – It’s going to be a long season for Titans fans. Denver on the other hand could challenge the Chiefs for the AFC West. The key is consistency at the quarterback position as it looks like their defense in loaded. Broncos 34 Titans 20
San Francisco @ Seattle – Both teams are in transition this year. 49ers depth could be a major issue while Seattle looks like they are getting ready for a re-build. 49ers 24 Seahawks 20
Detroit @ Green Bay – The Lions lost a lot of coaching talent in the off-season, but the nucleus of their team is still together. The Packers added Micah Parsons which will obviously strengthen their defense if his back issue doesn’t become a real problem. Offensively, it’s time for Jordan Love to have a breakout season or the Packers may need to start thinking about that position. The North is catching up with the Lions, but they’re still the team to beat. Lions 27 Packers 24
Houston @ LA Rams – The Rams added Davante Adams and it appears Matthew Stafford is ready to start the season in good health. The Rams defense appears average with the main concern is pass coverage. Houston and C.J. Stroud were last year’s darlings of the NFL till the folded like a cheap suit at the end of the season. The Texans need to improve on both sides of the ball to be contenders in the AFC. Rams 31 Titans 23
Baltimore @ Buffalo – For the last few years, both teams have over promised and under delivered. Believe it or not, this game has playoff implications. Nobody, especially Lamar Jackson, wants to play a night playoff game in ice-cold Buffalo in January. The Bills are obviously solid on offense, but the defense has had a rebuild this summer. Baltimore 30 Bills 27
Monday Night
Minnesota @ Chicago – Ben Johnson takes over as head coach for the Bears which should result in an improved Caleb Williams and offense. The Bears already bring an above-average defense to the table. But the NFC North is stacked so Bears fans shouldn’t expect a playoff contender for at least another year. The Viking start virtually a rookie in QB J.J. McCarthy who had a season ending knee injury at the start of his rookie season last year. The Vikings have solid talent on both sides of the ball, but depth and a killer schedule play key roles in any Vikings success. Bears 27 Vikings 24
